Williamsport F.A.Q.’s

  1. Who should participate – Players who are experienced and skilled for their age.
  2. Why play – It’s competitive baseball, it’s exciting and challenging, it’s Williamsport!
  3. How long is the season – The season is tournament-based (i.e. could last through the end of July or August if you keep advancing).  Most likely based on our skill… It Will last 2 ½ weeks starting the last weekend of June. As of today, the Tournament will start on June 25th for the 10-11YO and Little League Divisions. The Intermediate Division start date is June 25th.
  4. Team Selection – See below for specific league age selection information.
  5. Why are there cuts – For Little League, this is the most competitive level of baseball and towns are only allowed 1 team per age group, with typically about 12 players.
  6. Vacation & Camp – Players should not register if they envision missing any time more than 3 or 4 days.
  7. Can I sign up for both Williamsport and Summer baseball? YES! Most players will play both Williamsport and be on a summer travel team.  However, players can choose to play only Williamsport.

 

Williamsport Tournament - General Info

The Little League World Series is an annual baseball tournament for children aged 8-16. The tournament culminates in Williamsport, PA with the arrival of 8 International Region champions and 8 U.S. Regional Champions. The tournament begins in late June, with teams from some 8,000 Little League programs from across the globe begin competing in this tournament starting with District Level play.

The progression towards Williamsport looks like this:
a) District Championships
b) Sectional Championships
c) State Championships
d) Regional Championships
e) U.S. National Champion
f) World Champion

There are 16 Districts in Massachusetts. Sharon competes in District 11. District 11 is comprised of the following ten teams: Canton, Hopkinton, Medfield, Needham American, Norfolk, Norwood, Sharon, Walpole American, Walpole National, Westwood

 

Expressed Interest Requirement

All eligible players in Divisions will be notified by email regarding details of the Tournament per the rules of Little League International. Players interested in being considered for selection to a team participating in the Williamsport Tournament must indicate their interest by registering online at www.sybsa.org prior to midnight on (May 18th). They also must have played in at least 60% of the regular season games*. There is no player registration fee to play in this tournament. Full commitment to the practice and game schedule is mandatory.

Player/Coach selection: Week of June 1st
Team announcements: Week of June 1st

*Regular season games end approximately the first/second week of June (weather dependent).

 

Senior (60/90) Division

Player Selection Process
Interested players who complete the 2024 Williamsport Registration by the deadline (June 3rd) will be on the ballot of names to be considered.

The Player Agent shall generate a ballot from the names provided.

Team Manager and Player Agent shall vote for no more than eleven (11) players on the ballot. 

The Top Eleven vote-getters will be asked to become members of the Williamsport Team. (The Player Agent may add an additional member of the team if they feel it is appropriate given the voting results.)

The remaining roster spots(s) shall be filled by the current year Williamsport Manager with approval of the Player Agent. Particular attention shall be paid to players receiving the majority of votes.

Managers and Coaching Staff Selection Process
After the Williamsport Team has been selected, the VP of Baseball, with approval of the Player Agent and President shall select the Williamsport Manager.

Manager criteria shall include:
· Team play during the regular season
· Team preparation before a game,
· Demonstration by the team of good fundamental baseball knowledge
· Team sportsmanship
· Knowledge of Little League International rules
· Intermediate Division coaching experience.

Once the Manager is selected, he/she shall select two assistant coaches with the approval of the Player Agent and VP of Baseball.

Intermediate (50/70) Division

Player Selection Process
Interested players who complete the 2023 Williamsport Registration by the deadline (May 18th) will be on the ballot of names to be considered.

The Player Agent shall generate a ballot from the names provided.

Each Intermediate Division Manager shall vote for no more than eleven (11) players on the ballot. It is hopeful that all Managers will meet and vote at once together. That way any questions on players can be answered with his/her respective Manager in attendance.

The Top Eleven vote-getters will be asked to become members of the Williamsport Team. (The Player Agent may add an additional member of the team if they feel it is appropriate given the voting results.)

The Player Agent shall generate a ballot from the names provided.

Each Major League Manager shall vote for no more than eleven (11) players on the ballot. It is hopeful that all Managers will meet and vote at once together. That way any questions on players can be answered with his/her respective Manager in attendance.

The Top Eleven vote-getters will be asked to become members of the Williamsport Team. (The Player Agent may add an additional member of the team if they feel it is appropriate given the voting results.)
