Evaluations and Team Assignments

Each season ALL players who are registered for a division Minors or higher need to be evaluated to be properly placed. Evaluations are typically scheduled for the week after February vacation. ALL players registered in Minors divisions should attend at least one of the evaluations. More details will be shared prior to February Vacation.

Team Assignments will be announced in mid-March for all divisions other than Tee Ball on the same day. Minors and higher divisions are assigned by evaluation and formal draft procedures. Lower divisions assignments are randomly generated.

Please Note:
All 12-year-olds will automatically be assigned into the Majors division. However, they are still required to attend evaluations to allow for the best draft decisions.

Co-ed (Boys & Girls Tee Ball) (Pre-K & K)

The primary goals of Tee Ball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of the sport and to allow them to experience the value of teamwork. The time is spent on teaching and will focus on fun, fitness, and fundamentals. With player engagement in mind, we try to keep kids in small groups as they transfer between hitting, fielding, throwing, and running stations.

Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved as managers or coaches, or volunteer in a variety of other capacities, assuring a great experience for all players. Consider signing up to volunteer! It will be the best decision you make; coaching at this age is so much fun!

No live player pitching is permitted in this division; over the course of the spring season, this age group may transition to soft toss by a coach.

The division runs for seven weeks starting on April 28th on Sundays from 1-2 pm at Deb Sampson. If two or more sessions are canceled in May, we will add a Friday evening make-up session on 5/24 and/or 5/31. There will be no Tee ball on 5/26 honoring Memorial Day.

Single A (A)

An instructional division for players graduating from Tee Ball. Single A has a continued focus on increasing players love for the game. Players are introduced to live pitching by coaches and have their first experiences with game play. Games rules are modified for smaller sized teams to increase opportunities for players to hit and field at this young age. Practices are focused on improving players fundamental skills particularly ability to catch and throw. Teams will meet twice a week, typically Tuesday and Sunday for 90 minutes. Teams will play roughly 6 games in the season.

LL 6-year-old players and younger should have one session of SYBSA Tee Ball prior to joining this division.

Teams are randomly generated to allow all players equal opportunities to play with or against friends.

Double A (AA)

Double A (AA) concentrates on preparing our young players for competitive baseball. Practices at this division become more structured as coaches help players refine important individual skills, such as catching and throwing. Players are challenged with learning how to combined their individual skills to create team success. It is truly an exciting division as players start grasping how their individual hard work at practice is having an effect on the games they are playing.

Teams will meet three times a week, typically Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday. Players will participate in typically 9 games. Games rules are modified specifically for this age group to aid in players' development as well as their enjoyment. Coach/Machine continues to provide the live pitching and teams field a 10-man outfield.

LL 7-year-old players and younger should have one Single (A) season prior to joining this division.

Teams are randomly generated to allow all players equal opportunities to play with or against friends.

Triple A (AAA)

Triple A (AAA) is SYBSA's lowest level of competitive baseball. Scores and standings are kept and a double-elimination playoff series is played to close out the 12 game season. Players start the season facing coach/machine pitching for 2- 4 games; then are challenged as player pitch is introduced for the season's remaing games. Players continue to learn more baseball concepts as individual position's responsibilities are reinforced.

Teams will meet three times a week, typically Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Players will participate in typically 12 games. Games rules are altered slightly as teams field a 10-man defense and base-stealing is not allowed.

LL 8-YEAR-OLD PLAYERS WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED IN TWO DOUBLE AA SEASONS WILL FEEL A HEALTHY CHALLENGE IN THIS DIVISION.

LL 7-year-old players and younger should have one Double A (AA) season prior to joining this division.

Teams are randomly generated to allow all players equal opportunities to play with or against friends.

Minors

Minors is a competitive instructional division where more advanced baseball game concepts are explored as base stealing is introduced. Coaches focus on specific position play, pitching effectiveness, and hitting strategies. Scores and standings are kept in preparation for the season ending double-elimination playoff series. Many great friendships begin here.

Teams meet three or four times a week with games on varied days of the week and practices typically on Wednesday. In addition, there are a few Friday Night Spotlight games scheduled to give teams and players the opportunity to play in front of their families, friends, and the larger Sharon community! Teams play a 12-game season.

LL 9-year-old players and younger not drafted to a Minors team will automatically be assigned to a AAA team.

Teams assignments are based on evaluations and draft proceedings. Team assignments are posted to SYBSA's website mid-March.

Majors

SYBSA’s most competitive league for players through age 12 who perform at the top of their game. The division challenges strong players eager to learn more about strategic game play. The division features a limited number of spots and teams, with excellent opportunities for the serious player to demonstrate their skills. Game rules are based on the full Little League rule book with only minor local rule adjustments. Scores and standings are kept in preparation for the season ending double-elimination playoff series.

Teams meet three or four times a week with games on varied days of the week and practices typically on Friday. Teams play a 14-game season.

Intermediate (50/70)

This division bridges the transition from Little League sized field (46/60) to the full-sized 60/90 field. Traditional “Big Diamond” concepts are added such as leading off bases, pickoff attempts, and stealing at any time. Teams play against teams from our Little League District (ex. Needham, Norwood, and Canton)

Players may be dual rostered for an Intermediate team and Majors or Junior Division team. However, those players should have no baseball commitments other than SYBSA. Dual rostered players aged 12 and younger are expected to satisfy Majors team responsibilities in the event of game conflict with intermediate schedule. 13 YO dual rostered players are expected to satisfy Intermediate team responsibilities in the event of game conflict with Junior schedule. Instructions on how to dual roster will be provided upon request.
