How to be a SYBSA umpire (next season)

In the spring, boys and girls in the 7th grade and above are given the opportunity to attend umpire-training sessions sponsored by SYBSA. Over the years, several graduating students from this training program have gone on to umpire both baseball and softball games.

Registration is free.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be given an opportunity to umpire at baseball and/or softball games played at Deborah Sampson and Ames Street fields. In addition, after completing an in-training schedule of games, umpires can earn money for each of their umpired games.

This has been a very successful and well-attended program. If you are interested in umpiring this season, please complete the information below and mail to: SYBSA, PO Box 181, Sharon, MA 02067-0181. For more information about Sharon's Umpire Program contact Umpire Trainer David Aschaffenburg (aschaffy@comcast.net) or Umpire Coordinator Neal Beberman (jcbebes@aol.com).

The Umpire
by Milton Bracker

The umpire is a lonely man
Whose calls are known to every fan
Yet none will call him Dick or Dan
In all the season's games.

They'll never call him Al or Ed
Or Bill or Phil or Frank or Fred
Or Jim or Tim or Tom or Ted
They'll simply call him names.
