Reasons To Play or Not To Play Fall Baseball Southbat Baseball Wood Bats — Southbat best wood bats

Registration is open to those players entering 3rd through 7th grade during the 2022-2023 school year.

If your child is in 8th grade, we have reached out to a local league, and will share news soon. For players grade 2 and below, information about baseball and tee ball will also be shared soon.

This year we have partnered with Medfield and Norfolk to create a fall travel league. Dover-Sherborn has also entered a 10U team. Other towns may join, but at this point we envision enough teams that the competition will vary most weeks.

There will be home games at least two of the six fall weekends, and games will be played away the other weeks. Each team will likely play at least one fall game under the lights as well--this game may be against a neighboring town or a Sharon team in the same division.

The season opens up after Labor Day and runs for six weeks, ending on Saturday, 10/22. If we have more than one Saturday rain out, we will consider completing the season on Saturday, 10/29  There will be no baseball on Saturday, 10/9 (long weekend).

There will be games each Saturday. Each week every Sharon team will face one local team. Games are played in two hour blocks with start times in the early morning (either 8 or 9am for the younger players) and late morning/early afternoon for the older players.

Game actual start times may vary from week to week.  However, traditionally we have been able to provide the following pattern in regards to game slots at Deb Sampson:

Grade 3 - 9:00am Saturdays/ practices Mondays at 5:30pm

Grade 4 - 9:00am or 11am/ practices Mondays at 5:30pm

Grade 5 - 11:00am/ practices Wednesdays at 5:30pm

Grade 6 - 1:00pm/ practices Thursdays at 5:30pm

Grade 7 - 11:00am, 1:00pm or 3:00pm/ practices Thursdays at 5:30pm

We will not know how many teams at each division until registration is closed and we finalize our commitments with other towns.

Teams typically practice on weekdays @ 5:30 PM at Deb Sampson although subject to change if we have more teams than field space. As we get further into the fall and lose daylight, we will make attempts to have practices start earlier and share Fields A & B, which have lights.

FEES: The registration fee is $75.

Registration CLOSES 8/01/2022 so we have time to make teams and order jerseys. We will use the same jerseys from summer travel 2022--only players who are not paying this summer will order uniforms.

PLEASE READ: Lastly, in the past, in an attempt to avoid making cuts, SYBSA has looked to place more than one team in a division. When this effort falls short and we don't have enough players to make two or more teams, we are faced with teams that are over-enrolled, leaving a tough situation in which players battle for playing time, and coaches struggle to manage line-ups and practice plans. Given this, we have made a first-come, first-served registration for this spring.

The first 13 players who sign up for each grade will be placed on that grade’s team; each player after that will be placed on a waiting list that we hope will grow to two teams--ideally, this number would be 22 or more, or 11 per team.  If we do make two teams at an age group, the hope will be that we can schedule them at opposite times so that players from one team can join another when players are unable to play/out of town.

8th Grade - Norwood League (60/90 Big Diamond)::

12-game schedule in a Norwood-based fall league, designed specifically for this age group. The established program traditionally includes teams from Norwood, Canton, Westwood, Needham, and Dedham. Teams play twice a week, on Friday night, Saturday, or Sunday. All games are in Norwood. There are no playoffs. The emphasis is on player development. Make-up games can be played during the week. If there is a day or weekend where games are rained out, the season is extended an extra weekend.

The cost is $135 per player.

Registration will be open for a limited time and signing up early will help us begin the planning of the season ahead. Please don't delay. Please note: The SYBSA Sharon team(s) may be supplemented with 9th and 10th grade players - this will be discussed in more-depth once SHS players finalize their fall plan.
